“Great location, but very dated rooms in need of serious renovations.”

The staff were professional and helpful. The location was great—close to the train station and city center, and not noisy. The lobby is nice. We had a small dinner, which was good. The room was very dated: the carpet was stained, the furniture was very worn, one lamp didn’t work, and it was much smaller than the photos showed. It seriously needs refurbishment. The ratings on Booking were clearly misleading. Breakfast was okay, not as good as many other reviews claim. Despite the great location, we cannot recommend it.

The big covered terrace, the quiet inside the hotel, and the staff’s friendliness were great, but I found it hard to drive around the hotel because of the many tram lines.

“Zentral gelegenes Hotel in Basel”

The central location was a big plus, giving us an ideal starting point to explore the city with many sights, restaurants and shops within easy reach, and the good value for money convinced us that the place offered solid quality at a fair price; the friendly and helpful staff added to a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere, so overall we were satisfied with our stay, although we were less happy with the wallpaper that peeled in several spots and the limescale‑blocked shower head that sprayed water in all directions, and a timely repair or descaling would have been welcome.

The location, the comfortable bed, pillows and duvet were positives, but the bathrobes, which should have been replaced, were old and rough, and for the price the wallpaper peeled off in a few spots on the wall.
