The Sun Island Hotel & Spa Legian features an outdoor pool, spa, and restaurant. Located 6 minutes from Kuta Beach and Beachwalk shopping mall, and 20 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport. Air-conditioned rooms have flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, and fridges. The hotel offers 24-hour front desk assistance, room service, and free Wi-Fi throughout.

The staff were friendly and the location was okay. The pool area was in bad shape: wooden boards around the pool were broken or loose, with screws and nails sticking out. As an older person I couldn’t get in or out of the pool because there were no small steps and only a large drop, and no handle to hold onto. This was disappointing since the pool looked nice in the photos. There was no privacy either – tall buildings surrounded the hotel and workers at a construction site next door could see straight into the pool. The music was too loud to have a conversation. The property looked very different from the photos, which probably haven’t changed since day one. Showers were old and run down; I had to clean the shower rose because the water was squirting everywhere as it was blocked. The shower drain was clogged, causing water to flood the toilet area and make the floor slippery. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were lumpy and old. The wooden sliding doors covering the window and the doors that open for the Juliet balcony were jammed; I could only open one sliding door and had to get someone to open the balcony doors. The floors in both rooms were very dirty, so walking barefoot left my feet dirty. Overall, I was very disappointed; the cost didn’t reflect good value, and I wouldn’t recommend it or stay there again.

The rooms are tidy and clean, located well, and the beds are comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. This is a well‑priced, good‑value hotel with no major complaints. If I were to suggest something for future guests, it would be to pay a little extra for a higher floor because the ground floor was very noisy at 6 am with bikes going up and down the alleyway.

This is my second stay here and we love the hotel! The balconies could be a bit larger.
