“Very disappointing.”

I had been excited to stay at this beautiful hotel, but I missed the fine print that check‑in closes at 20.00. Arriving at 21.00, the hotel was shut, I couldn't get in, and no one answered the phone or email. No one tried to contact me – I was only about 5/10 minutes away at 20.00 and would have come if I had been alerted. The hotel cancelled my reservation without telling me, so when I finally got there I was confused, sitting outside in the dark, wondering what was happening. A few days later I received a €52 refund, but still no contact from the hotel to explain what had occurred. I would advise them to make it crystal clear that check‑in is only from 17.00‑20.00 (I had noticed the 17.00 part) and that if a guest doesn't arrive they should try to reach them. I know I was at fault, and I eventually booked another hotel, but I had been traveling since 4am that morning, exhausted and unable to think clearly. A phone call or email explaining the situation would have helped. The hotel has very good reviews, so I expected better customer service.

The historic house is beautiful and the location is great, plus the host was very welcoming. Breakfast was good value and offered a view over the water. The bed was comfortable, though its firmness might not suit everyone.

The palace is beautiful and the location is excellent. They should do more maintenance.
