“La meraviglia di Yanbaru”

I’ve been visiting the Yanbaru forest area for years, often bringing groups to the Yanbaru Forest Park, and I’m always fascinated by its pure, dense nature. For my birthday this year I decided to stay a few nights at Mr. Shiroma San’s pension, and it turned out to be exactly what I expected; the hospitality made me feel at home. We left our belongings in a comfortable, cozy room for two with a beautiful forest view and, in the distance, the sea. We spent the afternoon at Okuno Bleach, then took a dip in the forest waterfalls before returning to the lodge to prepare the evening with fresh fish grilled on a BBQ; we shared the night with the owners. The first evening was ruined by a downpour that prevented us from enjoying the starry sky that can be seen from this light‑pollution‑free spot. The second night was magical. We’ll definitely come back soon to spend more good time with Mr. Shiroma and his wife, Mami san. The only downside was having to return home.

I stayed here for the Perseid meteor shower, and it didn’t disappoint—I got to see a beautiful starry sky and make great memories.

I think the spot works well as a base when driving around Kuukamura Village; there’s a roadside station for shopping and places to eat, so as long as you have a car, it’s fine.
