It’s very quiet with a great lake view. The dining is intimate, food is cooked to order from a small but varied menu, and breakfast can be ordered the evening before. The rooms are very large and nicely decorated. The steep steps or slope from the rooms to the reception were fine for us but might be an issue for others.

The lake view from the room was stunning; Julia was extremely friendly, helpful, and accommodating, and we had a few meals there—she provided great service. If you have time, they arranged a blind masseuse named Angelique, who did a fantastic job. The only downsides were the walk to reach the room and the absence of a TV.

The lodge furnishings are tastefully chosen; the view from the bed into the vast nature and the large windows beside the shower were truly special! The staff are exceptionally attentive and friendly, and a special thanks goes to Julia. The lodges and the entire property are very well maintained. We’re returning for a second time to Akagera National Park, and the Ihema Lodge made this year’s stay unforgettable—highly recommended.

The location and views are exceptional, with a spacious, clean, and modern room that has all the necessary amenities. The restaurant serves great breakfast, packed lunches, and dinners, and the premises are quiet with a great atmosphere, close to the park gate. While some might prefer traditional lodges inside the park, I would choose Akagera Ihema Lodge again over any of the lodges inside the park.
