“Confortável, sem fumaça de cigarro, mas com alguns problemas no café da manhã”
We chose this hotel because it advertised a strict no‑smoking policy, and it lived up to that promise—no cigarette smell drifted anywhere, even though we spotted a discarded butt by the elevator on our floor and saw people smoking at the outdoor tables of the restaurant. The bed was very comfy and the daily housekeeping kept the room spotless. The pool water felt a bit chilly and there was no mixed‑gender hot‑water shower; the only options were separate male and female facilities, which didn’t work for us as a couple. The real let‑down was breakfast: after ten days at the Shanghai Marriott we expected more, and although the JW Marriott Beijing buffet offered a wide range, the service and food quality fell short. Whole‑milk and skim milk were in unlabeled bottles sitting in ice, making them hard to tell apart, and the milk itself was weak, worse than anything you can buy at 7‑Eleven. The orange juice tasted faintly of mango, the bread selection was limited and the baguette was always stale, and different cheeses were stored together with only one or two knives, so the flavors mixed. The dining area was cramped, utensils weren’t replaced between courses (I ended up eating fruit with the same fork I used for egg, which is unacceptable in a five‑star hotel), and most staff only spoke Chinese, making requests difficult. We could order scrambled eggs with extra toppings on a sheet at the table, but the dishes arrived without any label; on the last morning my husband and I couldn’t tell whose cheese was whose, and the eggs were served with ketchup—a condiment that wasn’t even on the order sheet. In short, plenty of variety but little quality.
