The spot was spot‑on for the competition, just a short walk from everything, but the house itself was a nightmare. It arrived covered in grime – wet towels on the floor, an unmade bed, dirty toilet and floors, and the keybox didn’t even work. To make matters worse, what was advertised as a two‑bedroom turned out to be a single room with a shabby fold‑out couch, and we went two days without hot water. Coming all the way from Perth, it really put a damper on the trip.

The place sits about five minutes from the city centre, so the location is decent and could be a cheap, relaxed option. Unfortunately the accommodation felt abandoned – there were no sheets or pillowcases for the fold‑up bed, the ones that were there looked dirty, and there wasn’t even any soap in the bathroom. Communication with the host was almost non‑existent, with messages ignored or answered late both before we arrived and while we were there.

I liked the comfy mattress, the quiet street, and the fresh paint, plus the huge TV and solid air‑conditioning kept things pleasant. The owner did step in with a clean quilt cover after I found the original sheets mouldy, which was a nice touch. Still, the room lacked basic stuff – no milk in the fridge, sticky floors, broken blinds, a missing bedside lamp bulb, and the shower glass was covered in soap scum and hair.

The apartment itself was a good size, which was nice, but the lock code they gave me was wrong and I couldn’t get in until I finally reached the host. When I did, he told me there was no hot water at the moment, and the whole thing felt broken down. It was frustrating to deal with those issues right after checking in.

The location was the only real problem – it was far enough away that getting around felt inconvenient and added extra travel time. Everything else was fine, but the distance made the stay less enjoyable.
