“Recomento a estadia.”
The place sits right on Praça da Aclamação, close to Rio’s waterfront and main sights, and feels safe with a comfy bed. The cultural space is lovely, filled with paintings, and the vibe is calm. They run free capoeira, percussion, and language classes for youth, so staying here helps keep the venue alive. My partner and I were the only guests, so we mostly had the space to ourselves, and only one activity took place. Owner Nei was helpful, attentive, and meticulous about the setting. They provide a kitchen with utensils, drinking water, and cooking gas. On the downside, the person handling bookings and paperwork, Cecília, was rude from the start even though I was polite; she didn’t reciprocate that courtesy and seemed uninterested in assisting guests. Initially there was a mix‑up: I paid for a double bed room but she tried to put us in a room with single beds, even though the hostel was empty. A bit more friendliness would benefit anyone serving guests. Also, as the hostel gets busier, bathrooms need more frequent cleaning because not everyone is careful, leading to dirt and unpleasant smells. Adding a hook in the bathroom for towels and clothes would be helpful since there’s nowhere else to hang them.
