Undoubtedly a place where you can fully disconnect, but it’s not for everyone because the walk to the accommodation is quite tough and you can only get there on foot.

Scenic views, a pool, and a hearty breakfast, but the breakfast starts too late at 8.30 even though they give a small snack of banana, cake, and coffee if you leave early; that’s not enough to sustain a whole morning of hikes. The location is challenging: we reached the accommodation by car, parked beside the road just before the sign for The Retreat, and had to walk a good distance with a steep uphill and downhill, which is tough with heavy luggage, small children, or a baby. They do offer someone to help with luggage, but you must inform them of your arrival and departure times. If you stay several nights, you’ll have to walk that route back and forth many times. The roads are dangerous for accessing the accommodation, especially in bad weather or rain. If you arrive after 21–22 h, the place is probably closed and you’ll need to call to have the door opened, which is difficult without a local SIM card.

I gave a good rating for the location, because anyone looking for this type of accommodation already knows that the setting prioritizes nature and views over proximity to the village. The staff are extremely friendly; we loved Vânia, who was always so helpful and kind, with a contagious joy. We even had a room with a window, even though we booked a windowless one. The pool wasn’t full, which made us reluctant to go; I understand we were in the rainy season, perhaps that’s why it was low. But for anyone wanting to spend a whole day at the hotel, having the pool at 100% is important.
