“Overall, it was a comfortable stay with a spacious room, but the lack of authentic ryokan atmosphere and the high price”
The hotel was comfortable and pleasantly spacious, which made our stay enjoyable, but we expected a more authentic ryokan experience. The overall value didn’t match the price: ¥40,000 a night felt steep for what was offered, especially since neither breakfast nor dinner was included. A tatami mat alone doesn’t make it a traditional ryokan, and the hotel’s name set higher expectations for Japanese atmosphere and hospitality. The view of Miyajima Island from our window was partially blocked by buildings around the port, and the location wasn’t ideal—about a 10‑minute walk from the train station, and reaching Miyajima still requires a ferry. For international guests, most information and signage are in Japanese, and the front desk staff speak mainly Japanese, so a translation app is almost mandatory.
