“The most wonderful place to stay in Myoko Kogen. We had the best time, went skiing and out to dinner with Hari and we ta”
The stay in Myoko was absolutely flawless; the owners Hari and Grace, along with the whole team, treated us like family. The location was unbeatable, just minutes from the slopes, shops, cafés, bars, restaurants, and transport, making it the perfect base for our trip. No complaints whatsoever.
“Great experience for a Japanese style accommodation”
The layout was great, rooms were clean and spacious for a Japanese-style stay. I would have liked a western bed option.
Very friendly and helpful staff. The onsen was great
“Very nice.”
I found the place ideal for skiing at Ikenotaira, and the staff were incredibly accommodating and helpful. Having an onsen on the property was a pleasant bonus.
“A nice location that with competent management and honest advertising could be a great place”
Breakfast was acceptable, but the coffee was only instant, despite the website claiming a coffee house on site. Butter was replaced with margarine. The ofuro was nice, yet instructions were inadequate, so guests slipped into the changing area and some even brought sennoki buckets into the bath. The website advertised a restaurant, but none existed; we stayed with a two‑year‑old son and had to eat cup ramen for two nights. Room service was promised but never delivered, and the bar listed online was absent. A mini‑market was claimed to be present, yet nothing existed; even the vending machine was broken. To get food, we had to walk 15 minutes to a local convenience store. TVs were present but non‑functional. Only two staff members were on site; they were polite but did not speak Japanese, so they were unaware of takkyubin services or how to order taxis. No driver was available, so arranging lifts to nearby ski fields or the station depended on whether the owner happened to be visiting at that moment. Earlier reviews from about two years ago described an attentive Japanese couple who provided meals, arranged lifts, and truly cared for guests. The current management lacks a dedicated manager to oversee the two‑person staff, leading to a feeling of no one in charge and no smooth operation. At 15,000‑20,000 yen per night, a room, bath, and breakfast might be acceptable, but at 50,000 yen per night the value is questionable. The solution is straightforward: appoint a Japanese‑speaking manager on site, fix the vending machine, add a mini‑kiosk for snacks and drinks, provide a driver on call for transportation (even if for a fee), and remove misleading claims about a restaurant and bar.
