“caixa de surpresas”
If you’re not an Indian citizen, you’ll need special permission to visit this city and the following ones as you go deeper into the valley. If the shower heater works, the room is good and has a lake view. The city offers nothing to do, so one day is enough. I used public transport to get there; it stops on the road and you have to walk about 700 meters to the hotel. I went in summer and the lake wasn’t pretty (maybe it’s better in winter). Walking around at night in the area requires only a flashlight and a lot of caution to reach the hotel because of some stairs, so if you plan a night outing, watch the artificial lighting. When I arrived, a staff member attended me but had no record of my reservation, which seems to be the norm in many cities in the country. The room lacked toilet paper and the shower heater didn’t work. The staff had already left and the contact phone was not answering. I had to take a cold shower, which was very unpleasant because the ambient temperature was low. I sent a new message to the owner, this time mentioning my checkout time the next day, and she appeared quickly (I hadn’t paid yet). I complained about the shower and the water was starting to warm up, so it might have been a one‑off issue, but without any staff to explain it was very difficult. After speaking with the owner, everything changed: she offered to arrange a better transport time than the public bus and even offered to take me to the road where I could catch that transport. In short, if the owner isn’t there to resolve issues, you’ll get angry and very frustrated with the place.
