“Unreliable”
I had high hopes that the Fairfield Inn & Suites Scranton Montage Mountain would live up to its modern, comfortable vibe, especially with the updated rooms and shower, so I even bought travel insurance and let them know I’d be arriving around 12–1 AM. They confirmed my reservation was secure and that they could handle a late check‑in. When I finally got there, I found the last parking spot, walked in, and was told the hotel had overbooked by about 6–7 rooms and that none of us could stay. They mentioned guests would be moved to their sister property, the Hampton Inn Scranton at Montage Mountain. I asked if there’d be a price difference since I’d prepaid for the Fairfield, and they said the cost would stay the same. The Fairfield employee was very kind and professional, and I felt bad for her because she’d probably dealt with a lot of upset guests in that situation, but politeness didn’t ease the frustration. I packed my luggage back into the car and drove another five minutes to the Hampton Inn. Parking was again a nightmare. The front desk was empty, and an employee eventually spoke to us from a back room. I gave my name and reservation details and was simply told to grab the room card from the table. The Hampton Inn room itself was a letdown: it smelled musty, felt uncomfortable, and looked clearly outdated. This was especially irritating since I had specifically chosen and prepaid for the Fairfield based on its room quality.
