We stayed in a former teachers’ apartment in an old‑school building, which felt nostalgic because I used to go to a similar school and visit my teachers’ rooms. It was tidy and comfortable, with a great view from the hill overlooking the countryside and birdsong that made us feel like we were in a classic Finnish summer film. The booking information was confusing, though: it wasn’t clear whether the kitchen and toilet were shared or private (they turned out to be private), and we had no idea there was no reception desk, but the owner personally came to show us around and hand us the keys.

The sauna had good, fluffy towels and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast was simple but tasty. The shared areas were left with minimal cleaning.
