I liked how close it was to the city centre and all the services, but there was a strong wet and mouldy smell in the common areas, and the room was on the 4th floor with no elevator.

The décor was tasteful, the place was perfectly situated, the kitchen was well equipped and the cleaning lady was sweet, but there was no key in the safe, the plumbing was the usual Sicily problem, some old mosquitoes had to be wiped off the walls, and the bathroom light‑switch panel was a bit loose from the wall.

The location was superb and walking to many sights was easy; the room was nice, the mini‑fridge would turn off and the AC would kick in when you pulled the card from the wall slot, but it wasn’t too hot so I barely used the AC. The bed was a good size and comfortable, I liked it overall and enjoyed the balcony, and being central meant plenty of breakfast and dinner spots. However, it wasn’t very clean, some things needed refreshing, renovating or fixing; the drain smell on the first night was so bad I had to hold my breath while showering, it got better but never disappeared so I kept the bathroom door closed. Communication was only through an automated system. Be ready to climb stairs to the top floor—no problem for me, but could be an issue for someone less able. You have to take your own rubbish out, which is odd because recycling is collected on different days.
