We stayed to catch the festival at the nearby temple, and the location was excellent for the temple. The staff were friendly, the rooms were old but very nice—Showa style. Unfortunately we were told there would be no breakfast service because of the large festival.

I walked ten minutes up gentle steps lit by lanterns to get to the hotel, which is just down from the temple; the cable‑car stop makes it a steep hike, so bring light luggage if you’re arriving on foot and mosquito spray for night strolls because it’s rural. The interior feels charmingly dated and the room itself is traditionally Japanese, but the staff were lovely and the Indonesian restaurant next door was great. Ikoma temple is a treasure.

The bathroom curtain in the room was stained with red mildew. The bathroom and toilet had not been cleaned, and the whole building smelled bad.

The room was quiet, large, and clean, which I liked. The only downside was that the only nearby restaurant was an Indonesian place.

The night view was beautiful, and although the room was old, it was still clean. The toilet’s flushing was weak, which made me uneasy.
