The beach spot is really nice, and the path to other lodgings and restaurants is a stone‑paved walk at low tide. The food is good—just order early so you don’t starve. 😜

The owners are incredibly warm and friendly. The hotel sits on the edge of Sorake with a good view of the waves and surfers. The pool is very clean and a nice alternative to the sea. Lagundri beach is a 5‑minute scooter ride (15 minutes on foot) away and is wonderful for swimming, even for kids, with a sandy and shallow entry. The island of Nias itself is beautiful, feeling like a jungle when you drive around. Sorake itself is very small and not much happens if you’re not surfing; the next biggest town, Teluk Dalam, is about 30 minutes by scooter, where there are many shops and supermarkets.
