“I enjoyed my stay apart from the incident with the worms”
I loved the setting and atmosphere—beautiful, peaceful, with incredible views, a great place to unwind. The lodge stayed very clean. The local community and staff were welcoming, polite, helpful, and kind, and they handled hiccups genuinely and promptly. The food was delicious overall, and the local tilapia stood out. My room was spacious, offered great views, and had a bathtub, indoor shower, separate toilet, and even an outdoor shower. I enjoyed walking around, taking a lake boat to see fishermen, and learning about banana wine. However, hot water and electricity were inconsistent, which was frustrating. I found worms in my breakfast cereal, which was disappointing. Given the high price, the service and maintenance details didn’t quite match the expected quality. The room lacked air‑conditioning and mosquito nets, so keeping windows open for ventilation brought insects in. The organized activity prices felt steep—$40 ($20 per person) for the banana wine tour seemed high compared to a direct fisherman boat trip for about $15 instead of the quoted $50. Accessing the property by car was difficult and required a 4×4 because the local roads weren’t suitable for a normal car; this is expected in Rwanda, so it wasn’t a big surprise.
