Hotel Da Luz

The location was excellent, close to the city centre and 10–15 minutes from the beach; the room was very new and the breakfast, while not extensive, was pleasant. However, towels weren’t changed daily, and when they were they were stained; the air‑conditioner kept running, couldn’t adjust the temperature or turn it off, even after we told reception.

The location was good, but the breakfast was weak in variety and quality.

The location was great, but the water took a long time to heat.

“Agradável mas não relaxante...”

The staff were pleasant, the location was good, the rooms were decorated nicely, and the air conditioning worked well. Breakfast was varied. The TV didn’t work even after we asked for repairs. The linens (bed and bathroom) weren’t changed every two days – the sheets still had cream stains and the towels were damp. Room cleaning was poor; when we returned there was still sand. There was no hot water, so a cold shower in the heat was unpleasant. We found cockroaches in the bathroom, and the shower clogged several times with sand. They could offer pool towels for rent.

“Top”

Friendly staff made great conversation, air conditioning worked, the place is close to the main street, shops and restaurants are within walking distance, the beach is also nearby, the hotel serves food, and the tour guide network gives useful tips for Sal. The bathroom needs a full replacement and deep cleaning because of lime scale and rust, only cold or lukewarm water is available (I liked lukewarm because the air conditioning makes it feel cold), the pool has no smoking policy, insects were in the room, and breakfast was just okay.
