The setting was nice, the staff lovely, the atmosphere relaxed, and the food good. The room needed updating, it was basic, noisy because it was near the kitchen and a fan disturbed us, the beds weren’t that comfortable, and it was overpriced.

The staff, service and restaurant meals were excellent; the beds were comfortable and there were good provisions for drinks. However, the shower facility was not a good experience. The shower cubicle was clogged with hair and residue, so we didn’t use it and only washed ourselves in the basin. The tap on the basin was very loose and needed maintenance—there’s a likelihood it will break down soon. We would not stay overnight until the family has had a chance to organize a better maintenance and cleaning regime. They are new owners and the pub needs a bit of TLC. Hopefully the situation will change once they have time to improve cleanliness. We wish them good luck for the future because we feel they are a hard‑working family.

The room was spacious, the staff friendly, and the price reasonable. Breakfast was poor quality and disappointing, with limited options for continental if you didn’t want a cooked breakfast. The beds were very old and uncomfortable. Depending on where you sleep, it can be very noisy with the window open because of traffic. A few minor touches to the room, such as hand soap from a pump dispenser instead of unhygienic bars of soap, were missing. I had to ask for towels and toilet rolls from the start, which should have already been in the room. The price was reasonable for a stay there. It’s bearable for one night as a stopover.

The staff were warm and friendly, but breakfast could use more detail—milk should be in proper jugs, toast isn’t being made or buttered, and the kitchen could lay out items better. All other meals were great, though breakfast let the experience down a bit; the new owners should improve over time. The room and property were fine.
