The view is breathtaking, giving a perfect start to the day. The lodge is simple yet tastefully decorated with natural elements, and the staff are extremely pleasant and professional, especially the front‑desk manager and the gentleman running the restaurant (Tamarin? I’m not sure of the name). The lodge’s location is excellent, surrounded by flowers and greenery.

Staying at Sora Lodge feels like stepping onto a quiet island, far from the hustle of everyday life. Surrounded by the pristine Lasta Mountains, the stunning valley view, and the sounds of birds and wildlife, you’re transported to a timeless place. The staff—Habteweld at reception and Birtukanama (Orange) in the restaurant—made the day special. They arranged our tours, handled a tuk‑tuk ride from Asheton St Maryam Monastery (when we switched from a trek to a ride back), fixed Wi‑Fi whenever it dropped, and organized the airport pickup shuttle. All of that comes at a price that isn’t cheap, but the peace of mind and comfort made it worth it for us, even if others might weigh it differently. Muluye Tsegaw guided our tours and comes highly recommended. Overall, a great trip. There’s nothing to dislike, especially if you’re ready to enjoy the experience and don’t mind the local businesses earning a bit of money off you. It was worth the value of being there in the off‑season and having people ready for us.

The location and the restaurant staff were wonderful, and my room—a full suite—was both unique and striking. The check‑in and check‑out were amateurish, unclear, and handled by incompetent staff. I wasn’t properly greeted on arrival, had to ask repeatedly for multiple things, and at checkout was forced to pay cash for items I’d already cleared to charge. First and last impressions are what stick, and neither were good here.
