The host was sweet, accommodating, and friendly, and staying in someone’s home in Nikko felt unique. The place was quiet and clean. The futon was very firm, like sleeping on a floor with a backpacking mattress; the host provided a few more futons, but it still felt hard. It’s normal for Japan, but if you need a softer mattress this might not be ideal; honestly, everything else was perfect so it’s hard to complain.

The host is absolutely adorable. The place is very close to the train station and bus stops, and the room size is ideal. The host also makes a wonderful breakfast! The only downside was the rain outside.
