Hotel Rural Portilla de Monfragüe

We enjoyed the hunting area, saw deer up close, and had great views from the room’s door. Because of a hunt we couldn’t use the facilities until after 5 pm on Saturday. They offered to let us leave later on Sunday, but we had a scheduled visit to Monfragüe National Park at 9:30. We appreciated being able to have breakfast at 8:30 (normally it starts at 9), but we missed tasting the variety of products that were later served to other guests. The staff, though correct, seemed very tired from the hunt and were a bit dry in their service. The surroundings are nice, the room was clean, and the décor is very understated. Some things need fixing, but for the short time we stayed it was sufficient to get by.

The location is excellent, Lourdes, the manager is impeccable and attentive to everything. Breakfast is good because coffee and toast can be repeated, and they make homemade cake and extremeña migas, which is a plus. (The migas are very good.) The bed was comfortable, but the mattress had a protective cover that made noise.

Nice, spacious room. Lovely quiet location. Filling breakfast. Dogs allowed. The bleach smell is a bit overpowering, and there is no internet in the room.

The location is exceptional; at night and morning the deer are heard very well, and at night we sat at the room’s door feeling as if we were in the middle of the mountains listening to them. The food is superb, hearty dishes at good prices, and breakfast is great. They allow dogs, which is a big plus. The staff is very, very friendly. At least the room assigned to us needs a major bathroom renovation, not because it’s “old” but because the floor was slightly raised and the toilet seat moved when you sat down. The bathroom walls also need renovation, as does the bathtub.
