The view was perfect and the rooms were roomy, the attendant/receptionist was wonderful, and we had a great time, though getting there was tricky but worth the hassle.

The bed was very comfortable, the room was large, and the views from the room were spectacular, but you had to be on foot to see them in full glory; the place has great potential but needs a bit of interior design polish to showcase its beauty, and the family‑run accommodation was lovely, though the bathroom had many mosquitoes and moths, and the bathtub entry/exit was awkward and slippery. Shimoda used to be a beautiful summer spot, but it’s currently extremely bleak.

The hotel breakfast and dinner were very tasty, and the staff service was excellent, but it’s a bit far, so you need to drive.

Everything was liked, but the old red swivel chairs were not appealing; the photos show modern chairs instead, and the breakfast could use a bit more European variety.
