The setting is impressive, but the spa requires a reservation even if you’re not getting a treatment.

The location and the property are fantastic, it does inspire a hunting lodge and a pace of life that is much slower than today. The staff is absolutely superb! The maitre d'h and the sommelier are spectacular, book the Michelin restaurant for an experience with the two of them. The restaurants are absolutely excellent, in particular the Michelin rated restaurant which is a culinary delight with wines to match. Breakfast is very good but a broader assortment of otherwise fabulous locally sourced products would be even better. The buildings themselves are historical and absolutely beautiful, it is a trip back in time albeit with modern comforts. The spa is worth a try. The heated pool is a place for both sports and relaxation and sometimes you are hard pressed to leave there and go explore the surrounding areas. France being France there are a few things that should be improved - functioning showerheads would be a great place to start, not the fire hydrant variety, just good, old, regular showerheads. At about E15 a piece you would think that a 5* could afford them. I get the old building vibe and the maintenance challenges that go with it but carpets that do not smell musty and a bit more air in the rooms would make a world of difference. Fabric headboards that get a periodic steam cleaning would also be appreciated, yellowed sebum on a white fabric headboard is not quite that attractive not to mention not 5*. And now to the guests – revving, admittedly Ferrari, engines at 730 in the morning is rather uncouth our “posh” British friends. So is driving at high speed to kick-up dust all the way to the stratosphere. Maybe once is understandable, but every day is a bit excessive. And then there’s the “I’ll turn the AC down to freeze the whole property” syndrome which resulted in melted circuit breakers. Not an electrical circuit error but rather an American guest(s) user error. But then again, it takes all kinds

The property was gorgeous, and the room was super comfy.

The breakfast in the room was unexpectedly better, but the upkeep of the equipment was disappointing; the setting has great potential.
