The Grand Hotel Nanaimo

“Old and dated but comfortable and clean with few modern amenities.”

The hotel sits away from the rough downtown Nanaimo area, close to Cactus Club, brew pubs, and decent restaurants; the bed was comfy and the room spotless, and the AC worked though it lacked a thermostat. The room was quiet. However, the interior feels old, dated, and worn; I had to hold a few meetings and work from the room, but the desk was tiny, the chair very uncomfortable, and there was only one plug with no USB ports.

Modern and beautiful, but the ice bucket was there while the ice machine was missing, and breakfast was only marginal with nothing hot; the only protein offered was cold hard‑boiled eggs.

Everything was clean and the interior was gorgeous; the service was excellent and went above and beyond, though it got a bit hot at night.

We arrived late and left early, yet the business trip itself was great; however, the breakfast layout was confusing—having the bread close to the toaster would have made a simple difference, especially early in the morning.
