Blue House Dormitory

I stayed one night in Odda before heading to Trolltunga; there aren’t many accommodation options in that town, so I’m glad I booked this place. The entire stay was self‑check‑in, and although it’s a hostel, the overall décor feels like a Japanese capsule hotel – very clean. The only awkward thing is the kitchen can get cramped if many people use it at once. I was the only guest that night, with another Taiwanese person, so the experience was very good. I recommend staying two nights in Odda if you’re planning a Trolltunga trip, because the weather is unpredictable; you can leave a day or two to climb. I arrived the day before and took the first bus the next day, and the host let me store my large luggage in a dry room.

“Non il massimo”

The location is just 5 minutes from the Odda bus terminal. The kitchen is well equipped and there’s plenty of free food for everyone. The dorm is the only one and there’s no staff to turn to in case of emergency. I found myself alone in the dorm with two men, one of whom made sexual remarks and made me feel very uncomfortable. I asked the other guy for help hoping he would assist, and he did, but normally I would have switched dorms if possible and asked staff for help. When I was there it was low season, but if it had been high season with 10‑12 people, they would have organized better with only one bathroom. The kitchen, while functional, is quite cramped. The common dorm lighting forces everyone to wake up a bit, because even the softer lights are still intrusive. Overall, it doesn’t justify the price.

“It’s a good place.”

The place sits right in Odda’s center, close to the bus station, restaurants, and groceries, making it a solid spot for backpackers heading to Trolltunga. I arrived at 7 PM and found no staff on site; I had to rely on other guests to help me contact the owner. It would have been better if the owner had emailed me the access details, assigned bed, and key code before my arrival, but they did eventually send me a quick reply. Overall, the location and convenience were solid.

The location was excellent and the kitchen was well equipped. However, cigarette smoke from the vents was noticeable, and there was a wait for the bathroom.

Everything was spotless, check‑in was a breeze, and the location was perfect. Nothing to complain about.
