“Average stay. Doesn't feel 5 star. Food and restaurants excellent.”

Food was excellent, breakfast great, dinner chefs exceptional, and service from waiters and restaurant staff very good. The scenic location was beautiful, just over an hour from Cape Town. We used to be regulars at Arabella and have not stayed for years; the recent experience under Southern Sun was average and it doesn’t feel like a 5‑star hotel. After a long drive from Cape Town, there was no welcome or refreshments at check‑in, and check‑out service was also average. The hotel lacks flexibility, wants to charge for late checkout, and although rooms have been upgraded, the property shows its age. The main outdoor pool was green.

“Great hotel with excellent staff. The restaurant is disappointing.”

The room was good; the staff were superb. The spa was excellent and the breakfast was good. The dinners were poor. The quality of the food was not anywhere close to the standard that I would expect from a hotel of this caliber
