Located in Dunfanaghy, the Shandon Hotel & Spa offers stunning views of Sheephaven Bay from its refurbished 2016 accommodations. Each bright and airy room features a TV, tea/coffee facilities, private bathroom, and some offer sea views. The hotel boasts a leisure centre with pool, sauna, steam room, and gym, as well as a separate luxury thermal spa and on-site parking.

Meal in bar was good . Fabulous views from front of hotel . had two rooms booked for the Shandon 8th-10th Sept . One described as a “king room with sea view “ for my elderly parents . On arrival it was clear the room did not meet their requirements or expectations. As follows - it was a small dark room on the 5th floor . The main lift went to the 4th floor & then the only option was to get out & get into a wheelchair accessible lift to the 5th floor . The room was on a small attic floor , small window & sign on door said executive room . It was dark & dated interior . The bathroom had a very deep bath & no shower . My mother was unable to get into the bathroom had to wash . The hotel were unable to move them to another room . The pictures on the booking & also hotel site much be a few years old as it did not meet expectations at all . For safety reasons , as my mother could not wash I was left with no option but to leave after 1 night . We tried the leisure centre to see if it would be okay to shower in but their changing rooms & showers are unisex which again is inappropriate for elderly people & in my opinion also for children . I spoke to both reception staff & also emailed manager . I requested a refund from the hotel for the second night but they have declined to give any refund . My parents are fully mobile & not invalided in any way but the bath & lift facilities are simply not safe for an elderly person . This is not mentioned anywhere on booking or on the hotel site itself . I contacted when we returned home & outlined all my issues with the hotel . They escalated my complaint to the manager again & as of today (10 days later ) they have not replied . I have reached out to booking .com again for assistance. I would not recommend the Shandon hotel for the reasons above and my opinion of it has only declined further with their absolute lack of customer service following my complaint

Loved the location but be aware it’s not close to town if that’s your thing. Staff lovely but it’s a struggle with luggage - no luggage trolleys. Loved the indoor pool and spa and surrounding areas to explore. As traveller becoming tired of same menus in every place. Maybe Ireland so rich in humour and hospitality makes up for that
