The location is unique and the redevelopment project is impressive; the main restaurants are good and the staff are friendly, and the spa lives up to the brand. The poolside restaurant service had many glitches, the only free boat access to the hotel is a single option while the rest are disproportionately expensive, and the breakfast selection is limited.
“Sublime”
The place itself, the gifts, the smiles, the restaurant choices, and the reasonable prices despite the hotel dependency are all great. Honestly, nothing negative.
Mamula Island is a beautiful property with a unique atmosphere and stunning architecture, but several areas need improvement for a hotel of this level. The menu is surprisingly limited, making it hard for guests with dietary restrictions or those who prefer simple, healthy food; more salads, grilled fish without heavy spices, and customizable dishes would help. Seeing raw fish as a main poolside lunch on a very hot summer day was odd. The spa process is also lacking: confirming a treatment should include asking guests about therapist preference; my husband and I only feel comfortable with female therapists, and finding out the assignment only upon arrival was unpleasant. Finally, a luxury hotel should provide complimentary drinking water at the beach or pool during peak summer, which it does not. Mamula Island has great potential, but paying more attention to guest comfort and service details would align it better with its luxury positioning.
The privacy, service quality and unique ambiance are exceptional; the historic yet modern feel makes you feel welcomed and honored rather than just another guest. The panoramic view rooms are incredible and the venue works well for groups of about 40. The only drawback is that it seems not designed for longer stays beyond 3‑4 nights – not sure what happens if you stay longer.
“Worth visiting once only”
The hotel has a beautiful design, a sad history on its grounds, a wonderful memorial museum, and a modern palace‑like interior and exterior. The staff are kind and welcoming, the greenery feels magical, and the cappuccino is lovely. For the price, we expected more: there’s no complimentary bottled water on the bedside table at night or on the beach, which is a basic resort standard. The gym is disappointing—just two treadmills and a few weights, and it’s not fully air‑conditioned, so those who want a proper workout will be dissatisfied. No food service on the beach, no showers, and the beach could be better maintained; a beach bar would help. A private event on one day of our stay restricted movement around the hotel, left only one restaurant open, and several dishes from an already limited menu were unavailable. Management offered a complimentary lunch, which we appreciated. The next morning, there was no à la carte breakfast, only boiled eggs and tomatoes, because the hotel was too full from the event and couldn’t prepare the full menu; they offered à la carte breakfast later, which helped a bit. Overall, two nights were nice, but anything longer would feel excessive. The lack of active management presence at the resort is noticeable.
