The staff were very friendly and catered to special requests at dinner. The room, on the ground floor, was a bit noisy; footsteps from above could be heard clearly. Breakfast started at 9 am, which felt late for us because we had a long hiking day ahead.

“Nice country pub and good rooms.”

The bedroom was spacious with a comfortable bed, and the pub offered good food. There was only one hanger in the room, and some noise from below—maybe a generator.

“Comfortable stay in a nice South Downs Pub”

Only five rooms at the pub, but they’re easy to reach and there’s parking. The bed was comfortable, a big plus for us older travelers, and the walk‑in shower was great. The pub had been recently refurbished, and the bar and dining area are very nicely decorated. The room was a bit small for our two large suitcases.

“Good apart from the last night because of the terrible meal.”

Breakfast was good, but we were disappointed that the website’s promise of a takeaway breakfast for early check‑outs wasn’t actually available. The meals were generally good, yet on our last evening the cook was off; the food that night was shocking. I felt sorry for the staff but should have complained then. I think the manager should have simply cancelled reservations so guests could have gone elsewhere.
