“When asked lodge to correct these things. They asked us to go have coffee. They did nothing.”

The gentleman who greeted me at reception was friendly and the early check‑in was accommodated. However, upon arrival we were shown to our room, unpacked, and then a man came to inform us that the previous night's guest wanted that room back to extend his stay, so we were told we would have to move. I asked if the new unit was the same and was told it was a bit smaller with a double bed instead of a queen. When we were relocated, the differences were stark: the original unit had a Smart TV with an active Netflix account, while the new one had Dstv with only one working channel. The original had a personal remote for access, the new one did not. Storage space next to the bed was replaced by cupboards built into the toilet, which was unpleasant. The toilet and shower were in a very vulgar state: the bowl was covered in a grey hardened substance, the shower floor was greasy like a workshop floor, the drain was blocked so I ended up standing in two inches of my own dirty water while showering, and there was no ledge for shampoo or body wash—apparently we had to balance them on our heads. The bathroom window opened onto open land and could be easily jimmied, lacking any burglar proofing, which was disturbing. The kettle boiled intermittently; a cordless kettle had been wired to a plug with no base, which may explain the issue. The freezer section of the fridge was damaged, could not make ice, and leaked water everywhere. They advertised Dstv but only one channel worked. The air conditioner turned off constantly, possibly on a time switch to save electricity and maximize profit at our expense. The queen bed was made of two single mattresses joined together, a normal practice, but the mattresses were so worn that hips and bodies sagged to the center, offering no support and clearly overdue for replacement. The list of problems was endless, as shown in the photos.
