Outside the building, a curtain was hanging off and the patio door wouldn’t close. The shower was filthy with black mould in the door frame. After 7 pm there was no staff on site, so we couldn’t report the condition. Breakfast had no coffee and the croissants were hard, so we left without eating because no one was around to help. The place overall looked neglected and unloved. We walked around to inspect the pool, gym, and sauna, but the gym was closed, dusty, and the sauna was uninviting. Brambles and ivy overran the gardens, giving the beautiful house a rundown hostel feel. I would have paid no more than £45 for this, not £90. I had read the reviews before leaving, but they seemed exaggerated; they were definitely not true.

“Good value for a short stay”

The room was tidy, with plenty of tea and coffee, and the gym was available though we didn’t have time to use it during our single night. Reception was very pleasant, and the house and setting were gorgeous, especially for the reasonable price compared to other places. The bar was closed, there was no on‑site food (only take‑away orders), and the house felt a bit chilly—probably costly to heat—so we stayed under the duvet. The overall vibe was lovely but not very warm.

The location was convenient and the price was low, but the old country house‑turned‑hotel has fallen into disrepair and needs updating. Breakfast was very limited.
