“It was a good place to sleep and the staff are commendable.”
It’s close to the national highway, but I’m not satisfied with the pricing.

We booked Leuchtturm as a base for trips to Oslob, Dalaguete, and Osmena Peak, and it worked out perfectly. The nearby town of Buljoon has an impressive old church and a fine museum with an excellent guide that’s worth a visit. There’s also a large cliff, Il Rock, which you can climb up and drop down from if you’re daring. Leuchtturm is a tall, multi‑story building that slopes down from ground level, so you only notice its size once you’re in the garden. The dining hall offers a lovely sea view where you can just sit and relax, and the menu is extensive. Both staff and the owner were very friendly and helpful. During our stay a typhoon swept straight over us, so it was a relief to be in such a sturdy building while rivers flooded and uprooted trees, yet the property showed no damage. The power went out for a few hours, but the kitchen still worked and we were able to borrow battery‑powered lamps. I’m not a fan of hospital‑style corridors with doors to rooms, but that’s how the accommodation is laid out, and that’s a very subjective preference.

The staff were fantastic, and the owner—once a chef—created an outstanding menu. The place was quiet, making it a great spot to stay.

Besides a disappointing Caesar salad, the restaurant’s food was pretty good and the sea view is nice. The interior is very spartan and lacks basic amenities like a phone in the room and a coffee station. There are numerous maintenance problems: the pool is moldy, oddly shaped, narrow, and only half full. The beach is all rocks. The vibe feels like Dracula’s castle, with strange noises at night, huge fox bats flying around and staring from the trees—kind of cool but also a bit creepy—and the overall place looks run down. There were very few staff; our server was also the cook, and only one person ran the restaurant. The internet was slow and spotty.

Breakfast was consistently hot and tasty. The location is off the beaten path, making short casual walks to shops or town a bit inconvenient, but catching a bus was quick and reasonably priced. The staff made the place wonderful. The distance from any quick trips to town was a bit of a problem. The beach was stony and the pool needed a bit of cleaning. Sometimes food items were hard to obtain, but that was not the resort’s fault.
