Dave the Cave Eco Lodge and Cultural Campsite

It’s a magical place where you can feel a lot of peace. The room was very big and spacious. Every morning a family of monkeys would wake us up playing on our terrace. We stayed for three magnificent nights, about 20 minutes by car from Queen’s Elizabeth Park. The last night we were sent off with a fire where we chatted with the owner and the rest of the team. A 10, they helped us with everything. The food was exquisite. The only downside was the distance to the park entrance, but really it’s not inconvenient because the stay there is worth it.

“Dave's place was one of those unexpected highlights of our entire time in Uganda!”

I didn’t know what to expect from Dave’s place before arriving. I had seen photographs and read up on their website, about their ethos and the location, etc. But honestly, I was blown away by my short stay here. Firstly, while the location is AMAZING and a huge factor in what makes it so special; without Dave front and centre, it would not have been the same. He is such a great host and genuinely interesting, engaging, and cheerful man. We really enjoyed spending some time with him in the evening, just having a drink and a chat around the campfire. The place itself wouldn’t be what it is today without Dave’s vision, and it really is incredible. The self‑contained accommodations are the perfect mix of luxury and rustic charm. Very comfortable rooms and the perfect place to relax. The culture evening was also a great unexpected bonus, which we really enjoyed. A real gem of a place! The only thing that comes to mind that could be an improvement is additional lighting on the pathways to the rooms, just for evening lighting.

“Backpackers lodge, prijs-kwaliteit verhouding klopte helaas niet”

The lake was beautiful, the area quiet, the place cozy and we enjoyed walks around several lakes, plus the breakfast and dinner were good and Dave was friendly, with nice people around; however, the price‑to‑quality ratio was completely off – the backpacker‑style rooms were very basic, the cost was two‑thirds too high, and we could have slept in decent hotels for the same price, and the road from the village was in poor condition.

Dave the Cave proved to be a lovely place to stay, and the highlight for me was the warm, welcoming hospitality. Even though my English isn’t perfect, I really enjoyed chatting briefly with Dave and Selly by the fire. The meals and coffee were delicious, and the team grows their own organic coffee, herbs and vegetables on site. I also loved the short walk to the cave and the chance to swim in the crater lake, plus the 11.25 km trail around the crater lakes. My cabin was clean, cozy and had a shower. Many thanks to everyone at “Dave the Cave” for such wonderful days!

Swimming in the lake is possible, the view is great, cave tours, herb walks, and other activities are available.
