“Verwenhotel”

Don’t be fooled by the hotel’s exterior that looks more like a scout hall; the interior is fantastic and tastefully renovated. There is a quiet lounge that invites you to meet other travelers and where you can drink coffee and tea. We had a spacious room with a renovated bathroom. A major plus was the included 3‑course dinner, simple but very tasty. You can use the pool for free, the water is pleasantly warm, the jacuzzi is very hot, and there is a sauna. The host was friendly! It’s a small‑scale hotel. There were no disappointments. The hotel is a bit farther from the ring road, but that makes it very quiet. The water from the shower smells like sulfur, which takes some getting used to.

The rooms were clean, dinner was always great—including some local cuisine—and breakfast was superb. The local swimming pool is free and when I went in the late afternoon I was alone. The entire valley is breathtaking and truly calm and serene. The staff were very kind and forthcoming. It also has a Type 2 ON charging point, which was a big plus for me. Nothing else; I wish I had stayed longer.

“A guesthouse rather then a lodge”

We liked the personal attention from the owners and the dinner and breakfast. Our room downstairs next to the parking was not ideal, lacking privacy and no view.
