I want to start by saying that we love this hotels location and this was our second trip back to this location. It’s a beautiful building and the perfect walking distance from so many restaurants in the south end. The lobby is beautiful and the coffee machine is wonderful! Before this weekend the only negative comment I had was that parking is tricky! That being said, I do feel like this is a common theme in this part of Charlotte and the hotel does its best to accommodate you. There is a second parking garage not far from the hotel that you can park in when the hotels is full. My husband and I had to use the second parking garage one of the two nights of our stay and it was extremely hard to get the front desk to figure out how to get a refund. The experience this weekend was polar opposite of our stay three weeks prior. The rates this particular weekend were double from what we paid three weeks ago. We were happy to pay higher rates because of the location and previous positive experience. We booked the King room with balcony this time and were assigned room 311. As soon as we opened the door the smell of cigarette smoke and cigars was unbearable. We are non smokers. We went back to the front desk and were reassigned room 411. When we entered the room the smell of cologne and something strange was so strong it burned my eyes and nose. My husband suggested the smell was a cleaner they used and to not worry as we had already changed rooms once. We left for an event and didn’t return until 11pm. We found the bed was saturated in some sort of strong cologne. The pillows and comforter smelled of body odor, sweat, and men’s cologne. It was so strong that I wasn’t able to sleep because it made me so sick. The housekeeping hadn’t changed the bedding between guests! The next morning spoke to the front desk and they notified housekeeping to change the bedding. The girl was not apologetic at all and actually seemed irritated. The second night was much better with clean bedding. So I know for a fact that the first night was a result of them cutting corners and not changing bedding between guests. The other thing that was shocking was that I noticed walking back to the hotel that they didn’t do one thing about the original smoke filled room as it was occupied with another guest! I also noticed several of the balcony rooms were occupied with people smoking cigarettes on them. If you are sensitive to smoke, do not book these rooms! I sincerely hope that management does something about this because it’s a shame this hotel is so nice and so poorly maintained

We found an absolute gem! This is the most beautiful Holiday Inn Expresss I have ever seen! Blown away from check in to check out by how luxurious this location feels! We loved the location and were able to walk to restaurants and shops! We will be back!
