“Wij hebben overwogen om een ander verblijf te gaan zoeken, helaas zat alles vol i.v.m. het WK roeien”
The place’s prime location was the biggest highlight, especially for our trip to the World Rowing Championships at Lake Varese, as the lake was within walking distance. The house and its meticulously tended garden gave the property a special look. What disappointed us most was how we were treated as guests. From the reception, we sensed a rush and a lack of understanding or flexibility, even though we were traveling with a baby. Throughout our stay, we constantly faced rules and restrictions—about keys, the lift, strollers, and bikes—without any practical solutions offered. We tried to adapt to the house rules, but there was no reciprocity in terms of empathy or practical help when needed. The room itself was also a let‑down: it was very small for two adults, a baby, and a crib, and we would have liked to know the limited space beforehand. The shared bathroom had a dirty floor, a basic crib, and no facilities to clean baby items, which made the stay less pleasant. The most disappointing aspect was the lack of personal touch. At breakfast, we often felt other guests received more personal attention; a second cup of coffee or extra items had to be requested, whereas they were offered spontaneously to others. Even at departure, the focus was mainly on practical rules. Throughout, we felt we were not truly welcome. The property has everything to be special, so it’s a shame that we mainly experienced rules and restrictions; a bit of understanding, flexibility, and genuine interest at various moments could have made a world of difference. Hospitality for us isn’t just a beautiful house, but the feeling of being seen and welcomed as a guest, which we unfortunately missed during our stay.
