The place sits right in the heart of the fortress town, laid out in a nine‑star floor plan that’s perfect for a short trip, and the parking is just around the corner. The Palmanova walls and city gates are worth a look. The only downside was that the small table that could have fit in the room was a bit missing.

Everything was in place, even the detail of where to hang a towel, and they offered toast, coffee and tea. What was missing were the ear plugs that were advertised, which would have been handy for the ongoing pilgrimage.

They gave us breakfast, which wasn’t included in the price, and they stored our motorcycles in a courtyard even though they said there was no parking. Very good.
