I couldn’t find the campsite signage anywhere; it’s best to arrange a meeting point and get picked up, otherwise everything else was fine.

We booked a single night to experience the Agafay Desert, and the camp arranged a reasonably priced transfer to and from Marrakech through an external company; the pickup point was a easy‑to‑find school near our lodging, and the return drop‑off was at the bus station where we planned to continue our journey. The drivers took different routes and shared plenty of stories about the land, its people and the scenery, which made the ride worthwhile, and we certainly wouldn’t have wanted to locate the remote camp on our own. The site is genuinely quiet for Agafay, only occasional quad noises can be heard during the day from a distance. The five tents are luxuriously equipped and we lacked nothing. In addition to half‑board we ordered a lunch because we arrived early, and every meal was extremely generous, varied, of excellent quality and, as far as I could tell, locally typical. We were the only guests that night, which added a special charm – we felt almost alone, with only an attentive staff member popping in now and then to call us for meals, check if we needed water or wanted tea. Despite the language barrier we felt well looked after. There was no entertainment program, which we didn’t miss. A booked dromedary tour had to be cancelled because of rain, which was out of the camp’s control. I can’t think of anything we disliked; the weather was the only thing beyond their influence. I would have liked to stay two or three nights to take more walks and soak up the atmosphere.

The stay in the Agafay desert was very refreshing, with a tent, very pleasant staff, and delicious Moroccan breakfast and lunch. The activities, especially the buggy rides, were well organized.

The view, the calm, and the authenticity were great. The only downside was that a suitable vehicle seemed indispensable to get there.
