“Emily is a star, helpful and friendly”
We arrived late, so I called ahead and the kitchen had already prepared our meal. Emily handled the check‑in, escorted us to our room, then welcomed us to the bar with drinks and food; she was incredibly helpful.
“great stay”
Very clean. Nothing else to add.
“Not how it appeared in the photos”
I left after seeing my room because it was nothing like the website—everything was grey, drab, with no furnishings, pictures, or view. Two tiny beds made it impossible to turn over; I had a dog and couldn’t find a place for her bed without tripping. The floor was hard, no carpet or rugs, and the single hard seat was uncomfortable. The rooms were in a plain building separate from the pub, lacking character. When I complained to the owner, he said it was clean and noise from the pub wouldn’t disturb us, and that hard flooring was more hygienic because we allow dogs. If noise was a concern, I wouldn’t have booked a country pub. Initially they said no double was available, then changed their mind, but I had already decided not to stay. It was depressing. I paid £144 per night upfront, asked for a refund, but the owner didn’t respond, so I reported the experience. I was told the owner would compensate me if no refund was issued, but nothing has happened yet.
“Not all it says on the tin (or website)”
The cleaner and the young lady who checked us in were great. Other staff not so great. Clean room. Average food quality, but prices are low so you get what you pay for . Majority of staff could use some customer facing training skills, fast. Not nice to listen to the young barman throwing up in the gents toilet while you eat your breakfast. Don't expect a pub to run out of bacon at breakfast time. Manager needs to be on site more often, we waited two days out of a 3 night stay to resolve one problem
The staff were very friendly and I’m glad they accommodated my late check‑in. The inn looks gorgeous and is well‑located in Temple Cloud village.
