The location is nice and the staff are friendly, but the food was poor and I was charged incorrectly.

“A beautiful, historic venue”

The staff were great, our room was very comfortable and clean (though a little tired), and the evening meal was tasty and well presented. Plenty of onsite parking, and the open fireplaces added a delightful touch. Breakfast, however, wasn’t very extensive and a few items ran out, but the full English was freshly cooked and very enjoyable.

“Apart from the friendly staff, the accommodation was awful. An experience not to be repeated.”

The building has old character and potential, but the room was a dark, damp, tacky, poorly ventilated conversion of stables with a nasty smell that stayed all night—likely from damp or old carpet. Cleaning was superficial; the back and under the bed looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned for years. The bathroom needed repair: skirting boards were cracked and unpainted, wall tiles were broken, and there was black mould in the grout.

“Sorry won’t be returning neither will I recommend this establishment”

The building itself is beautiful, and one staff member was excellent. The place wasn’t very clean but acceptable. The main disappointment was the poorly trained, unmotivated staff—except for that one gentleman. Breakfast lacked salmon for the eggs royal, so I got a bun with fried bacon, a poached egg, and some sauce. When checking in, I was annoyed having to give my credit card details for potential damage. I’ve never experienced this treatment worldwide. I think I was moved to a small room at the far end of the top floor because I complained. The departure email wording feels like the building’s overall unwelcoming attitude; maybe run it through AI.

The location is fine, but there was no dinner service, so I had to go to a pub down the road. The overall decor looked very tired.
