“The accommodation in Slovakia was a very disappointing experience.i”
Close to Slovak Paradise. The host doesn’t speak any English—neither basic words—and wouldn’t use phone translation help. She explained everything impatiently in Slovak and expected us to understand. When paying the local tax, she couldn’t even give back a few euros in change. We were told to leave our shoes and slippers outside the room, apparently to create an illusion of cleanliness. The bed wasn’t prepared, so we had to make it ourselves, and there were no towels or soap. The walls are extremely thin, so you can hear everything from the neighboring room. Outside, people shout constantly, but when you close the door to block the noise, there’s barely any airflow. Both nights we smelled cigarette smoke and had to ask people not to smoke under our window. The room itself is tastelessly furnished. The entrance door has a window, so whenever someone turns on the light outside, it wakes you up. They seem to cut costs on electricity just like they cut costs on water pressure. The TV is ridiculously small, not that anyone would use it. There’s no proper blackout because the blinds don’t work, and there’s no real wardrobe, so we had to store our clothes on the floor. In terms of price–value, the accommodation is extremely poor. Even though it’s one of the cheapest options in the area, it’s simply not worth it—you’d be better off bringing a tent.
