Madame Gatteau greeted us warmly in her lovely, tastefully decorated home; the large room and the hallway of rooms available to us were impressive, and we especially appreciated the kettle.

“Etape originale au coeur des châteaux de la Loire”

Our host greeted us warmly and we chatted about our home regions; the well‑maintained manor house was stylishly decorated, our room was huge with an adjacent wardrobe and a bright bathroom that had both a bathtub and a shower, plus nice towels—felt like a castle! The breakfast matched our tastes perfectly: fruit, homemade yogurt, assorted breads, homemade strawberry jam from Sologne, all served in a dining room that fit the rest of the house. It was also nice to talk with the other guest, a very interesting Englishman. Romorantin’s market was bustling, and our dinner in the garden of a local pizzeria was enjoyable, though there are other nearby spots for more regional fare. The only minor issue for us was that the bedding was a bit too soft for our preference for firmer support, but everything else was so good that it didn’t matter.
