“Beste Lage, sehr herzlicher Empfang, schlecht zu lüften”
A stately corner house in a prime spot, almost right on the Seafront. When we arrived, the owner greeted us with an abundance of affectionate charm, complete with endearments and friendly touches; we also met the house dog Grace immediately. The room shows what can be lovingly restored in an old, venerable building. At night it was pleasantly quiet. We had to leave very early and missed breakfast, but a cold breakfast was offered as a replacement. Plenty of bottled water was available in the room.
On the downside, the room was hard to ventilate properly. We arrived after a particularly hot week, so the space was warm and it was difficult to sleep. A large fan sits in the room (air‑conditioning is still not needed here – yet), which has its reason. The windows only open a sliver, which is a real drawback. Proper ventilation would only be possible if the hallway door were left wide open, which is not everyone’s preference. Moreover, the old saying that England lacks toilet brushes came true again – that could be changed. The shower tray could pose problems for older guests when getting in and out.
