“Ontspannen en comfortabel”
Friendly staff, good bar and breakfast, the room was spacious and quiet with a nice shower, but the lighting and ambience control in the room were lacking.
“It was fine.”
The room was clean for a hostel, and the staff were friendly, but I didn’t like the setup because everything outside the room was locked up tight. The hours were limited, so you couldn’t access anything outside those times, and the prices felt a bit high for a hostel. Maybe this is just common in Amsterdam. A couch and at least a microwave that isn’t locked away, plus a coffee machine that works more than a couple of hours a day, would solve all the minor issues.
The staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was decent. The hotel is on the outskirts of Haarlem, about 3 miles from the city centre, so it feels more like a hostel than a hotel, which is fine if that’s what you’re looking for.
The location is excellent – the bus stops right outside the door and takes you to Haarlem station in 15 minutes, from there the S‑bahn gets you to Zaandam, Amsterdam, Beverwijk in another 10–15 minutes. The vending machines, free tap water, and decent breakfast cover everything you need to start the day. The cozy bar with a lovely terrace and a fire pit adds to the vibe. However, school classes keep the place noisy at night; the quiet hours start at 10 pm, but the teachers apparently don’t care and stay up until 2 am, turning the corridors into a carnival. The hostel staff didn’t intervene to restore peace, so the noise continued all night. Teachers, you have an educational duty too – just put on earplugs and go to bed.
The breakfast, bar, and interior design were all good. The only downside was the bathroom – it was very small and cramped, especially the shower area.
