“A traditional airbnb with a caring, friendly host and personable interactions!”
I spent three days at La Gemma in July as a solo female traveler, and it was the ideal spot—great location near public transport and the building itself felt safe. The apartment was on a high floor with many stairs, but that didn’t bother me and is worth noting. On arrival, Gemma texted a photo of the building’s exterior to help me locate it, and she was easily reachable via WhatsApp for any requests. Every morning she made a wonderful breakfast (she had sent a menu beforehand so I could pick what I wanted), which was fantastic. She also offered city tips, recommending good pizza spots and other activities—a very caring and insightful host. Cold bottled water was available for purchase (1 Euro), which was much needed in the hot summer. The air‑con worked quickly, and the bathroom toiletries were plentiful and lovely. The bed was comfortable, and the room was so quiet at night that city noise didn’t disturb me, even though it’s in the center of the piazza. It was a lovely, homey place to stay. The only downside for those who want a view is that Gemma tells you in advance that the apartment is on the top floor with windows on the ceiling; for me that was fine because I only used the room to sleep, but if you want to look out over the plaza, this isn’t an option.
