Located in Nanjing's business and entertainment district, the Sofitel Nanjing Galaxy features a fitness centre, 4 dining options, and free parking. Rooms offer flat-screen web TV, free internet, city or Xuanwuhu Lake views, and en-suite bathrooms with rain showers and bathtubs. The hotel is within walking distance to shopping malls, near the Mingguo times-inspired Villa block, and a 20-minute drive from Fuzimiao and the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum Scenic Area.

The location is great and the staff are friendly and competent. Breakfast offers a wide selection and the room is large. However, the light switches in the room are confusing, and the water in the shower isn’t really cold.

I was upgraded to a wide room with an excellent bathroom, and the concierge was super helpful with my attempt to book a place at a museum. I noticed that there wouldn’t be much privacy in the bathroom if you wanted it – there was no actual door and the toilet door was made of glass, as I recall, maybe wrong!

I was satisfied.

None of the charging ports or sockets worked, nearly missing my alarm because my phone and electronics didn’t charge. The facilities are very old.

The hotel's location and staff were a highlight, but the outdated and worn-out facilities were a major letdown. Although it may have been a great hotel 20 years ago, it's clear that it needs renovation. The staff and location can't make up for the hotel's overall state of disrepair.
