I spent three months in Kandy and Riverline Resort felt like home; if you’re done with cookie‑cutter hotels and want to be close to nature, this place is worth it. The house sits in a quiet corner of Kandy, just a 10‑minute ride from the city center, and the view from my room was breathtaking: the Mahaweli River flowing endlessly below and green mountains stretching as far as the eye could see. The room was spacious with large windows that let in plenty of natural light, kept very clean, and the bed was large and comfortable. I especially liked the separate wet and dry areas in the bathroom, which isn’t always the case in Sri Lankan hotels. Because it’s a homestay‑style accommodation, staying here also gives you a glimpse into everyday local life—you can hear coconuts being scraped every day and smell the wonderful aromas of different curries coming from the kitchen. The house has a lovely large garden filled with all kinds of flowers and trees, and plenty of space to park a car, scooter, or even a tuk‑tuk! The owner and his family are incredibly friendly and kind, helped me in so many ways during my three‑month stay, and made me feel very welcome. They also prepared some of the most delicious food and drinks I had while in Sri Lanka. If you want to experience local life rather than just stay in a standard hotel, I would highly recommend staying here. For me, it was not just a place to stay, but a truly memorable part of my time in Kandy. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country with a rich cultural and historical heritage, and I can’t wait to visit again and, of course, stay here on my next trip!
