B&B HOTEL Valenciennes Sud 3 étoiles

The proximity to my meeting spot in Valenciennes was convenient and it was calm. We were scheduled to be welcomed at 14:00, but the hotel opens at 17:00 and we were not given an access code beforehand. The room had a dated decor but was clean, and an unbearable odor from the floor irritated us; we had to leave the window open for two hours. The smell made my tongue feel swollen and irritated my eyes, which was very unpleasant and a major issue with the floor. Our pet coughed, so we had to leave it in the car for long periods (luckily the outside temperature was suitable). When I tried to get coffee from the dispenser, my card was charged once and the machine gave nothing, so I had to pay again to get my coffee. I told the front‑desk staff, who offered me a black coffee, but I had already refilled. I won’t repeat this experience at a hotel that doesn’t suit me.

The place was quiet and conveniently close to the highway, the garden was nice, and parking was right in front of the room.

“Sehr ansprechende Übernachtungsgelegenheit”

The direct highway access and the ability to park your car right in front of the door are real pluses. The rooms are truly spacious, but when sharing a double, the single side of the bed against the wall feels cramped and there is only one chair, which is a minor flaw. Unfortunately, the hotel’s name “Bed & Breakfast” does not automatically include breakfast (that was my mistake). Paying for breakfast in the morning is still possible.

Everything matched our expectations: quiet, roomy, air‑conditioned, and the parking was very close.

The staff were friendly and helpful, the premises were clean, the room was comfortable, the breakfasts were good, and the setting was calm and green. However, for people with reduced mobility the toilets are a major issue (room 3). The toilet is tucked into a corner of the bathroom, far too close to the sink, so even a disabled person struggles to sit on the seat without hitting the sink rim that is level with the bowl. These toilets are not PMR‑compliant.
